What does it mean to live a life?
When we are asking this question, we are thinking of “live a life” as an active endeavor and of living as just a passive state. Maybe it is best to say instead, what does it mean to live an active life? Almost everyone are living, but very few are “live a life” in the active sense (The phrase from Confucius, “Everyone eats food, but there are only few who tastes food”).
The way I see it, to live is to act and to act is to have agency. And to have agency is to have an agenda, a purpose, or goal. To live an active life it having a goal is essential. In fact, people with goals are much more successful in our society than those without goals. But often, people have been using the methodology of goal creating to simulate a process like that of living a life as opposed to actually living a life.
So let me rephrase: To live is to act. To act is to create.
Create, the verb form, is the essential aspect of living a life. What does this mean for me and you? For me, avenues to problem solve and give solutions have the elements of creating for me.
